Would You Rather Date a Mermaid or an Angel: My Choice is Clear
In the realm of mythical and fantastical beings, the choice between dating a mermaid or an angel is a fascinating one. I do not align with the commonly proposed options, as I believe in dragons. However, should I be presented with the choice between these two mythical figures, my preference lies with a mermaid, for reasons both intriguing and practical.
Angels, in my understanding, do not possess free will. This is a critical flaw that eliminates them from my list of potential romantic partners. Additionally, as an atheist, the notion of an angelic romance brings to mind conflicts that I am not interested in resolving. Therefore, my preference is straightforward: date a mermaid.
Mermaids, in contrast to angels, are non-existent according to empirical evidence, but they hold a special place in my heart as a cherished mythical creature. There are numerous positive attributes that make them an ideal choice. Living in the ocean may indeed put strain on a relationship, but the allure of a mermaid’s tail and ability to shift forms, particularly embodying legs on land and a regal tail in the water, cannot be ignored. Furthermore, mermaids are often portrayed as kind, compassionate, loving, and lovable, with a personality that aligns well with humans on both physiological, emotional, and psychological levels.
Of course, the mermaid in question must be moral and non-murderous, as my primary goal is to ensure the longevity and happiness of our relationship. This is especially true for a creature that might have a taste for human beings, as depicted in mythology. Conditions such as those I mentioned in the movie "Splash" or "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" would make for an excellent partner. These mermaids, portrayed by Daryl Hannah and Astrid Berges-Frisbey, respectively, possess the qualities that make them ideal for a relationship.
Mystical and romantic depictions of mermaids in cinema highlight their allure further. From films like "Surplus Princess" with Feng Shao Feng's merman to "This! Angel’s Last Mission: Love" with Myung Soo, the cultural representation of mermaids can offer a delightful backdrop for imagining a life together. Shinigamis or death angels, featuring in K-dramas, such as Miyavi’s character Byakuya, align with a more palliative and comforting afterlife, a concept that resonates with me more closely than the traditional biblical angel.
Mythical beings from Asian media, such as the Shinigami in "THIS! Angel’s Last Mission: Love," offer further romantic appeal. The actors involved, such as Padam Padam and the Shinigami character played by Ji Chang Wook, encapsulate the qualities of a divine and captivating companion. Even the representation of baby angels from "High School Love On" piques my interest, albeit in a more lighthearted and endearing manner.
Ultimately, when it comes to my choice, I find a mermaid to be the clear and more appealing option. Not only do they align with my personal preferences and beliefs, but their mythical depiction also offers infinite possibilities for a romantic and engaging relationship. Whether it's the graceful movement through the water, the transformation onto land, or the soothing, gentle nature of the mermaid, these attributes make her the most attractive choice among the mythical creatures considered.
