The Power of Tahajjud Prayer: Stories of Successful Problem-solving

The Power of Tahajjud Prayer: Stories of Successful Problem-solving

Praise be to Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful. Seeking Allah’s help and guidance in our endeavors and striving to avoid sins are paramount. As narrated by Anas ibn Malik, one should both tie the camel (efforts and means) and trust in Allah, for it is in this balance that true success and resilience lie.

Seeking Success Through Aligning Efforts and Faith

A great exemplification of this principle can be found in a Hadith where a man sought advice from the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). When asked whether he should tie his camel and trust in Allah or leave it untied and still trust in Allah, the Prophet responded, 'Tie him (meaning make the effort) and then trust in Allah.' [Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 2517, Hasan, as mentioned by Al-Albani]

The Role of Dhikr and Remembering Allah

Frequently remembering Allah—through acts of dhikr such as reciting Tasbeeh (subhanaAllah, alhamdu liAllah, etc.)—plays a critical role in our daily lives. As stated in the Quran, [al-Kahf 18:24]: 'And remember your Lord when you forget,' reminding us of the importance of maintaining a constant connection with Allah.

Supporting Dhikr for Better Health and Focus

However, it is also important to ensure moderation in daily life. Overindulgence in food and drink can lead to laziness and a dulling of the senses, exposing us to physical illnesses. Scholarly advice emphasizes the benefits of certain foods, such as honey and raisins, for enhancing memory and mental alertness. For example, Imam al-Zuhri advised eating honey for its positive effects on memory, and he recommended raisins for those seeking to memorize Hadith.

The Connection Between Remembrance and Heart’s Rest

A heart finds solace in the remembrance of Allah, as stated in the Quran: [al-Ra’d 13:28]: 'Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.' This reminds us of the spiritual benefits and emotional tranquility that comes from remembering Allah.

Effective Supplications for Guidance

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) offered several supplications that can be recited in times of difficulty. One such supplication is:

'Allahumma aslih li deeni alladhi huwa 'ismatu amri wa aslih li dunyaya allati fiha ma#39;ashi wa aslih li akhirati allati ilayha ma#39;adi waj’al al-hayata ziyadatan li fi kulli khayr wa’l-mawta rahatan li min kulli sharr.
O Allah, correct my religious commitment, which is the foundation of my life, and correct my worldly affairs in which is my livelihood, and grant me goodness in the Hereafter, to which is my return. Make my life a means of accumulating good and make death a respite for me from all evil.' [ narrated by Muslim 2720]

Another supplication, for complete reliance on Allah, is:

'Allahumma rahmataka arju fa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata ‘aynin wa aslih li shani kullahu la ilaha illa anta.
O Allah, for Your mercy I hope, so do not abandon me to myself even for a moment. And correct all my affairs. There is no god but You.' [narrated by Abu Dawud, with a saheeh isnad (chain of transmitters), as mentioned by Al-Albani in Saheeh al-Kalim al-Tayyib p.49]

The Time of Answered Supplications

As the Quran also affirms, one of the times when supplications are most likely to be answered is during the last third of the night, a time known for its spiritual significance and the increased likelihood of intervention from the sublime.

Conclusion

Seeking divine intervention in the form of Tahajjud prayer, through the practice of remembrance and other supplications, has historically proven effective in addressing and solving complex problems. By aligning our efforts with the will of Allah, we can find the strength and guidance necessary to overcome challenges in our lives. May Allah guide us all in these efforts.
