Shameless: My Favorite Characters and Why
Shameless is an American TV show that has captivated audiences for its raw and realistic portrayal of the Gallagher family. Each character brings their unique story and personality to the table, making it a show that resonates with viewers for different reasons. In this article, I'll discuss some of my favorite characters from the show and explain why they have left an indelible mark on me.
1. Fiona Gallagher
Among all the characters, Fiona Gallagher has my heart, especially considering she's also the favorite of Emmy Rossum, the actress who portrays her. Fiona is a beautiful, brave, and strong-willed young woman who had to grow up quickly, taking on the role of both an older sister and a mother. She raised her five younger siblings when she herself was still a child, often making the same mistakes as a result of the lack of a supportive parental figure in her life. However, Fiona eventually toughened up and learned many valuable lessons, all for the sake of her siblings not repeating similar mistakes.
Moreover, Fiona is an inspiration to me, representing the courage to be better every day and the strength to never give up. Although she has flaws, her resilience and dedication to her family are undeniable. She is the heart and soul of the Gallagher family, and her presence on the show has been irreplaceable. It's unfortunate that Emmy Rossum left the show after season 9, and fans were disappointed that she couldn't return for the series finale due to the pandemic. However, I remain hopeful that someday there might be a reboot, allowing her to return to the role.
Top 10 Characters
Shameless is filled with a range of complex and fascinating characters. Here are my top 10 favorite characters, each with unique traits and development throughout the series:
10. Liam Gallagher
Liam is endearing and we got to watch his journey from babyhood to early teenage years. Despite not being given a chance to showcase his personality, Liam is still incredibly independent and brilliant for his age, making him a memorable character.
9. Sheila Jackson
Sheila was a heartwarming character, the best mother to Hymie. I especially loved her caring nature towards Karen and Debbie in the early seasons, offering them unconditional support and love.
8. Veronica Fisher
V is the best friend everyone wishes they had. She was incredibly helpful to the Gallagher family, always there with a helping hand. Her intelligence and supportive nature made her one of the standout characters on the show.
7. Kevin Ball
Kevin Ball is a standout for his humor. As a father figure, he brings joy and laughter to the show, making him a favorite among many viewers. His fatherly love and support are heartwarming to watch.
6. Mandy Milkovich
Mandy's journey is one of bravery and resilience. Losing everything to her father's abuse, she became a stronger and better person. Her escape from the Southside was a huge victory, and it's clear how much she deserves a better life.
5. Lip Gallagher
Lip is often controversial among fans, but I believe he's the best-written character on the show. He's a great dad and brother, despite his struggles with alcohol. His desire to be a father often clashes with his actions, making him a deeply sympathetic character.
4. Carl Gallagher
Carl is also on my list for his humor and character development. His trauma is palpable, and his struggle to find love and acceptance, especially in his relationship with Kassidy, is heartwarming. Carl’s kindness and love make him a fan favorite.
3. Fiona Gallagher
Speaking of Fiona, she has an undeniable place in my top three. Despite her flaws, her unwavering commitment to her family and her personal growth make her an inspiring character. Without Fiona, the Gallagher family may not have survived. She deserves much more than what she has received.
2. Ian Gallagher
Ian is another character who resonates with me, especially due to his hard work and strength. His bipolar storyline was beautifully crafted and deeply emotional. His relationship with Mickey added depth to his character, making him a better person in the process.
1. Mickey Milkovich
Mickey is undoubtedly the bravest character I've ever seen. He's endured so much, yet he still finds happiness. He deals with a homophobic father who abused him, but he still cared for him. Mickey is the funniest on the show, but his resilience and loyalty to those around him make him a standout character.
In conclusion, Shameless is a show that touches the heart and soul with its compelling characters and their stories. From the loving and supportive to the brave and rebellious, each character brings something unique to the table. My heart belongs to Fiona, and I eagerly await a future where Emmy Rossum can return to the role, bringing her back to life on the show.
