As we strolled 30 yards away from the house, a pomegranate-like fruit, 6-7 inches in length and a vivid green, fell to the ground. It was quite a surprise! My son had remembered reading about it on Wikipedia, referring to it as an Asimina, or pawpaw fruit. It transpired that these fruits grow wild on the surrounding trees.
In a short span of a few minutes, a dozen of these heavy, pungently scented fruits fell right in front of me, as if they were being thrown by an invisible hand. Each fruit's impact added to my growing sense of discomfort, and I realized that I no longer felt secure in our new environment. With my son, we decided to head home for dinner to regain a sense of safety.
Strange Activities Emerging in the House
After a relaxing lunch and some dishwashing, I mentioned, "Well, now we can rest." Little did I know that this simple statement would trigger a series of inexplicable occurrences unique to our new house. The toaster's power light turned on by itself as if someone had triggered it, initiating my paranoia and anxiety. The light seemed to signal the beginning of something we could not comprehend.
Soon, the dispensers with liquid soap and another, more pungently scented toilet cleaner began to move on their own. They started to behave as if controlled by an unseen force. These seemingly small, yet profoundly unsettling phenomena added to my growing fear of the unknown, driving me to seek the soothing comfort of home.
