Embracing Rainy Days: A Lifelong Love

Embracing Rainy Days: A Lifelong Love

Since my childhood, rain has always been a source of comfort and joy. Even now as an adult, I still find myself eagerly anticipating the promise of rain, believing it to be a symbol of God's glory. Growing up in the countryside, storms were a frequent sight, and by the time they reached my neighborhood, they were monumental displays of nature's raw power.

For me, thunder and lightning became oddly comforting. I have a set of prayer beads that I pull out when the skies darken, providing me with a familiar and soothing ritual. My love for rain is something that has remained constant throughout my life. Even in Bangladesh, where the storms are much more intense, I would get excited when the first drops fell, shouting 'BRING IT ON LORD!!' while my hosts huddled for shelter.

Childhood and Rain

My love for rainy days extends into my childhood memories. In places like Kerala, where rain is almost an ubiquitous part of the year, the monsoon brings with it a sense of anticipation and joy. One of the most delightful memories is the beauty of paper boats, which float gracefully down the streets, a symbol of the vibrant culture during the monsoon season.

When the monsoon starts, schools reopen, and a new academic year begins. It's a time of excitement and renewal for students. Playing with rainwater from the roof becomes a way to enjoy solitude and a unique form of entertainment. One umbrella and many friends fostered friendships under the rain, and the first love often found its sweet moments in a quick pour with a shared umbrella.

Playing football in the rain takes the game to a whole new level, and watching the rain in a pond creates another occasion for solitude and introspection. Rainy days also bring lazy mornings and romantic nights, perfect for enjoying a cup of black tea fritters. This simple pleasure, combined with the company of a loved one, is often the best way to relax and unwind.

Adulthood and Rain in GT

I currently reside in Greater Manchester, England, where rain is a regular part of the weather. The grey skies and constant rain may seem gloomy to some, but for me, it has its benefits. In this area, watering plants is almost unnecessary due to the ample rainfall. I find comfort in the sound of raindrops hitting the window while I am wrapped up in a cozy blanket.

Despite the constant rain, there are times when the sky clears, and the sun comes out. When this happens, we heavily appreciate the change in mood and often flock to the nearest beer garden or beach to enjoy the change in weather and have a few drinks. Rain, in this aspect, also contributes to a relaxed and joyful mood.

Conclusion

Whether I am ten, seventy, or somewhere in between, one thing remains constant – my love for rain. It is this unwavering affection that keeps me connected to my roots and the comfort of home. Rainy days, in all their unpredictability, have brought joy and comfort throughout my life, and I look forward to continuing to embrace their beauty.
